Safe, Continuous Transfer of Aggressive Chemicals

The Challenge

A specialty chemical plant producing high-purity electronic-grade acids faced severe challenges in transferring concentrated sulfuric acid. Their existing pumps, constructed from standard materials, suffered from catastrophic corrosion failures within weeks. This led to frequent production halts for emergency repairs, high replacement part costs, and posed a significant safety hazard due to potential leaks of the hazardous chemical.

Solution

Arkstar engineered a robust solution centered on the ARKFLO Series diaphragm pump, specifically configured with a PTFE (Teflon®) fluid path and advanced perfluoroelastomer seals. This combination provided complete chemical inertness against the aggressive acid. The leak-proof, sealed design of the diaphragm pump inherently eliminated the risk of fluid exposure, while its air-operated or sealed motor options offered flexibility for the plant’s specific area classification.

The Value Delivered

The Arkstar system delivered transformational reliability and safety. Pump service life increased from weeks to over 18 months of continuous operation, drastically reducing maintenance costs and unplanned downtime. Most importantly, it created a fundamentally safer work environment by eliminating leakage risks, ensuring regulatory compliance, and protecting both personnel and assets. This allowed the plant to meet its production schedules reliably and confidently.
